Simon Stone – ABTT Technician of the Year

At the ABTT Awards Dinner on June 11th, Simon Stone was presented with the ABTT Technician of the Year award. Simon has been with Unusual Rigging for over 10 years and was commended for his exceptionally accommodating and calm approach to the rigging of an enormous range of large scale shows. Fulsome tributes were paid to Simon, who responded by recognizing the efforts made by the entire team at Unusual in Northamptonshire.

Unusual May and June 2008

Over the spring months, an extensive amount of design, planning and preparation went into the projects for May and June, when Unusual would be running at capacity, whilst retaining the capability to take on last minute and emergency work at short notice.

Unusual in Dubai

Unusual Rigging will be exhibiting at PALME in Dubai from April 27th to the 29th.

Presenting the broad range of rigging and engineering solutions offered by the company, Unusual will include the award winning and highly successful winch - The Revolution, the Liftket range of electric chain hoists and Prolyte’s truss & Stage Dex ranges. Unusual’s presence at PALME marks the launch of their new Middle East operation, scheduled to open in Dubai in the autumn of 2008. Replicating the service in the UK, Unusual will offer a specialist rigging and engineering service, supported by a comprehensive range of well maintained and up to date equipment. Operating to European standards, all equipment will be stored locally in Dubai.

Unusual Month April 2008

Probably the busiest ever spring into Summer at Unusual. Gone with the Wind now open, Mary Poppins tour starting up in Plymouth, Cats into Norwich & High Wycombe and Chitty into Bradford and Sunderland. The Beijing Motorshow, Dan Dare at The Science Museum, The BAFTA Awards, ANZAC Day at Hyde Park Corner are just a selection of the projects for this month.

Unusual Month March 2008

Gone with the Wind fit up continues in the West End and on tour, Cats moves from Southampton to Leeds, Mamma Mia is in Belfast and Starlight Express finishes its tour in Plymouth.

Unusual Month February 2008

Following on from January, The Business Show and then the Brits arrive in Earls Court. Once again, major rigging projects back to back with complex requirements.

Theatre tours amount to Cats in Bristol, Hull and Newcastle; Starlight Express in Grimsby and Aberdeen and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in Bradford.

Unusual Month December 2007

Text message arrives from Guinness World Records : 30th Nov 2007. Coca-Cola Blow Up Media Calendar at 54m (177.1ft) long and 17.3m (56.7ft) high. At 934.2 square metres, this was the largest.

Unusual Month November 2007

Probably one of the busiest months on record. On the theatre side, Bad Girls finishes in the West End and on tour, The Producers goes from Milton Keynes to Glasgow and then to Cardiff. Starlight Express is on a Scandinavian leg visiting Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo, Helsinki and Copenhagen. Mamma Mia moves into Bristol, White Christmas into Edinburgh and Cats moves from Liverpool to Crawley.
